Amid robust growth in economic and trade relations between Vietnam and India, on March 10, 2026, Saigon Port Joint Stock Company (Saigon Port) welcomed a delegation from the Embassy of India in Vietnam, along with senior representatives of the Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port Authority (SMPA), Kolkata, led by Mr. Rathendra Raman, Chairperson of SMPA, for an official working visit.
On behalf of Saigon Port, the reception was attended by Mr. Nguyen Uyen Minh, Deputy General Director, together with representatives from relevant departments and affiliated units.

During the meeting, both parties shared insights into their operational capabilities, scale of operations, and strategic development directions. The Vietnamese side highlighted Saigon Port’s integrated port network and maritime logistics services, spanning from Tan Thuan to its joint ventures in Cai Mep – Thi Vai (Ho Chi Minh City), which play a pivotal role in supporting regional supply chains. Saigon Port also presented the Can Gio International Transshipment and Gateway Port project, a strategic initiative expected to enhance Vietnam’s container transshipment capacity, strengthen connectivity with major global shipping routes, and create new opportunities for cooperation in port operations and logistics.

On the partner side, representatives of SMPA provided an overview of the port system in Kolkata, one of the key port clusters in the Bay of Bengal region, serving as a vital gateway for trade to Eastern and Northeastern India.

Both sides discussed opportunities to enhance maritime route connectivity, while exploring potential partnerships among enterprises within the maritime ecosystems of Saigon Port and SMPA.

As part of the program, the Indian delegation visited the Tan Thuan Terminal Operation Center, gaining insights into operational management, terminal operations, and cargo handling capabilities at Saigon Port. The meeting was conducted in a constructive and open atmosphere, reflecting a commitment to strengthening long-term cooperation.

In recent years, maritime cooperation between Vietnam and India has achieved notable progress, particularly with the launch of direct container shipping services, helping to reduce transit times and facilitate bilateral trade. The visit is expected to further enhance connectivity between ports and logistics enterprises of both countries, contributing to the development of regional supply chains.
