Through the service quality, operational productivity, and capability to receive large vessels, Cai Mep International Terminal (CMIT) continues to contribute significantly to the overall performance of the Cai Mep port cluster in its role as a strategic gateway of the region. In the first 11 months of 2025, CMIT handled more than 350 mother vessels and over 8,000 barges and feeder vessels. Total throughput reached over 2 million TEUs (including volumes handled for mother vessels and barges), of which mother-vessel throughput exceeded 1.1 million TEUs, up 28% year-on-year, the highest 11-month volume recorded by CMIT to date. CMIT also maintained smooth cargo flow throughout this period, with no congestion at the berth or in the yard.
In addition to volume growth, safety remains CMIT’s top priority. The terminal has achieved more than 1,900 consecutive days without any Lost Time Incident, reflecting its strong commitment to safety and service quality. CMIT currently operates 8 international services connecting directly to Europe, the U.S. East and West Coasts, the Mediterranean, and intra-Asia markets, enabling cargo to reach major destinations without transshipment, thereby reducing transit time and logistics costs.
To achieve these results, CMIT has invested in technology applications for operations and management from the earliest days, combined with continuous improvements under the LEAN/Kaizen culture and the ongoing promotion of collaborative operating models within the region. These integrated efforts help CMIT maintain stable productivity while meeting international standards and the increasingly high requirements of leading global shipping lines.
In the first 10 months of 2025, the Cai Mep – Thi Vai deep-sea port cluster continued to reinforce its position as Vietnam’s strategic import–export gateway, with total mother-vessel throughput reaching nearly 6.3 million TEUs, an increase of over 18% compared to the same period in 2024. Notably, according to the 2024 Container Port Performance Index (CPPI) published by the World Bank and S&P Global Market Intelligence, Cai Mep secured its position in the global Top 7 among more than 400 container ports worldwide, an outstanding and consistent achievement, especially in a year when many major ports experienced significant ranking fluctuations. This is a clear demonstration of the port cluster’s exceptional operational efficiency and the seamless coordination among authorities, port operators, and stakeholders across the maritime ecosystem.
