HCMC – The construction of the My Thuy seaport in Hai An Commune, Hai Lang District, Quang Tri Province, has resumed after years of suspension.

The resumption of the VND14.2-trillion project began this morning, March 25, at the Dong Nam Economic Zone of the province.

Originally approved in 2019 by the Government, the 685-hectare project had faced repeated delays until the My Thuy International Port Joint Venture Company (MTIP) took over it.

Once operational, My Thuy seaport would serve as a gateway to the East Sea along the East-West economic corridor and facilitate the transportation of cargo to and from industrial facilities within the Dong Nam Economic Zone and other industrial parks in the province.

Anticipated to handle shipments destined for neighboring countries such as Laos and Thailand, the seaport could help attract investments into the Dong Nam economic zone, and other industrial parks in the province and regions across Laos and Thailand.

It would be capable of accommodating vessels weighing up to 100,000 metric tons.

The project’s first phase, slated from 2018 to 2025, will witness the operation of four terminals covering an area of 133.67 hectares. Subsequently, the number of terminals is set to increase to seven by 2031 and 10 by 2036.

The investor has promised to complete and commission two to four terminals by the end of next year.
